Year Seven - Easter Baskets for Love Moves Forward

Our group has put together a lot of Easter Baskets throughout the years.  This year will be out 7th and we are so happy to be able to continue this project.

Image result for easterWe will be making 60 baskets this year for the Atlanta Children's Shelter (acsatl.org). The Atlanta Children’s Shelter was established in 1986 by members of the Junior League of Atlanta in response to the growing number of homeless families with young children in the Metro Atlanta area.  Initially, ACS was established as a centrally located childcare facility where homeless parents could bring their children while they searched for employment opportunities within the community.  In 1996, the Atlanta Children's Shelter made the decision to dramatically overhaul its entire service model in an effort to become more responsive to the unique needs and barriers of homeless families.  In addition to an evolved service model, the Atlanta Children's Shelter also received a new home thank to the very generous donation of the North Avenue Presbyterian Church.

Since its inception, the Atlanta Children’s Shelter has successfully assisted in stabilizing nearly 5,000 homeless families and over 8,000 homeless children by transitioning homeless families into stable housing and sustainable employment.

2017 - Time Sure Flies

It has been months since I updated this blog - not because we weren't busy - but because I was busy and kept putting it off.

Last Fall, members of our project decided to support a wonderful new foundation in support of a dear friend who passed away.  We raised money to share music with those who could not afford to play or pay on their own.  Because of this, we did not do our annual Christmas stockings.  This year we will resume as in the past.

Members also served on mission trips and making and preparing food for MUST Ministries.

We would like to welcome two new members of our project: Joan Keenan and her son, Jackson. Jackson has been supporting the project for a couple of years now and has finally joined our team.  We are thrilled to welcome him and his mother.
*********************************************************************************

Our next event is the Easter Baskets for Love...our annual event to provide filled Easter Baskets for local non-profits who would otherwise, have none. More details to follow...

We hope you are enjoying the New Year and have made plans to serve more...we are always looking for new members.

MHFH - lunch is served

The Mary Hall Freedom House hosts monthly family days where patrons and their families gather for lunch and group sessions.  Most of the monthly events include families taking off to the local restaurants to grab a quick bite before returning to MHFH for their group meetings.  The be4good project thought it would be nice to serve a hot meal where they could all stay together and spend more quality time together.

On Saturday, April 16th, 3 members made and served lunch for approximately 50 family members.  Mini meatball hoagies, salad, cookies, chips and drinks were on hand and everyone had their fill.

While our commitment to serve is still up in the air pending time and resources, it is sure to be one of our preferred events for the future.
May we all share the time and love with family...and as always, be4good!

Mary Hall Freedom House Supports Women and Children

One of our new projects this year was to provide 75 Easter baskets to the Mary Hall Freedom House.   Mary Hall Freedom House is a nonprofit organization and national leader in gender-specific treatment, recovery, housing and support services to help women and women with children break the cycle of poverty, homelessness, mental health disorders, and addiction. Below is the Director, Gwen Hall, and two of her helpers that were there to accept and delivery our baskets to the children. Visit them at www.maryhallfreedomhouse.org.

Hop into Spring with our Easter Baskets for Love

Easter Baskets for Love Update:

Many thanks to all of our supporters for the Easter baskets this year.  We made 85 and filed them with wonderful items and candy.  75 went to the Mary Hall Freedom Center and 10 will go to  the Cobb County MUST shelter this Saturday.  A special thanks to the following people who donated time/items to our project: Jackson Keenan, Jill Hewes, Christina Klejka, Susan Blackman, Dr. Gail McLaurin, Patty Sammons, Susan Neal, Nancy Chessey, Nichole Burkhalter, Patty Voyles, Jennifer Kenny, Stephanie Gale, Ryan Gale, Valerie Sherer and Steve Gale.  Special thanks to our youngest supporters, Cara and Sammy Kenny.  Sammy (age 6) gave up going to the store, the park and a party to stay and help with the baskets.  When asked why she stayed, she said "Because it's nice."  Kindness matters folks.

Sammy and Cara

We look forward to our next project.  Take care and as always, be4good!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Where has the time gone?  It is almost spring in Georgia and our daffodils are already blooming; of course, we've had our biggest snows in March so we will have to see.

It is time again for our Easter Baskets for Love project.  This year we've added a new group to support:  The Mary Hall Freedom House.  We will be making 75 baskets for them and 10 for the MUST shelter in Cobb County.

We have already received a good amount of support from our team, but are now reaching out to others to fill the gaps.

Here is what we still need:

A: Matchbox cars 12 in individual packages- TK
B: Barbie Dolls - 8 in individual boxes
C: Barbie Dolls 8 in individual boxes
D: 15 filler toys - boy or girl (check the dollar stores or Target) PUP
E: 15 filler toys - boy or girl (check the dollar stores or Target) PUP
F: 4 AXE body spray or comparable for teen boys-JK
G: 5 body sprays for teen girls-JK
H. 6 dozen filled eggs - SB

We already have the baskets, grass, chocolate bunnies, candy, bubbles, baby items, some teen girl items, baby books, stuffed animals, toothbrushes and toothpaste.

If you can support us with purchasing items, please choose the item letter and email it to me so I can mark it off our list.  (Example: if you are purchasing item A you are purchasing all items in that letter group - as in 12 matchbox cars).

You can email us at thebe4goodproject@gmail.com. Once received, we will let you know where to drop off or if we can pick up your items. All items need to be received by March 12th.  We will assemble and delivery to MUST and the Mary Hall Freedom House on Saturday, March 19th.

Please note:  we are NOT a non-profit group, but we support non-profit groups.  If you need a tax receipt, let us know now so we can provide one for you from the non-profit groups above.

Please email with questions as well and as always, be4good!

2015 Holiday Blessings!

As we all gather with our loved ones and celebrate the season, it is always nice to add a moment of silence or a prayer or kind thought for those who will be without.  We have so many blessings while many have few.

Our project supported the children again this season...25 filled stockings for the Childrens' Restoration Network in Roswell, Georgia and new pajamas for toddlers at the MUST shelter in Marietta, Georgia.  A big thank you to those who participated especially Valerie and Mike Sherer, Christina and Matt Klejka, Jill Hewes, Patty and Al Voyles, the late Marilyn Sammons, Patty Sammons, Jennifer and Chris Kenny, Stephanie Gale and Steve and Kathryn Gale.

It is through giving that we receive!

May you all have a very Merry Christmas and a safe, healthy and blessed New Year!
