Thanksgiving at MUST complete

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of the people who helped with our 2012 Thanksgiving Sides for MUST this year.  We made enough stuffing and green bean casseroles to serve about 250 people.  The MUST kitchen director, Lavon (picture), came by and picked up most of the trays and other items today from thebe4goodproject house.  Our group picked up a new member, and we had friends participate for the first time.  A special thank you to the following people:  Marilyn Sammons, Jo-Anne Crawford, Jill Hewes, Christina Hewes, Shay Hamer, Stephanie Neal, Carrie Minchew, Kim Keene, Patty Voyles and last but not least, Jennifer Kenny.  Our group is full of loving, caring people and we are blessed.  Lavon was thrilled and looks forward to working with us in the future.

Our wish is for all of you to continue to pray for and care for those who have less...and to have a safe, warm and wonderful Thanksgiving Celebration with the ones you love.

And as always,
be4good

The holidays will be upon us before we can blink, so it is important to find our projects for the end of the year.  Our first project will be to help MUST Ministries with their Thanksgiving Meal.  We will be making two of the sides for 225 patrons, plus seconds.  Much is needed to fulfill this request.  If you have any interest in participating, please let me know by email.  We need some of the following items to help us prepare:

Large cans of French Style Green Beans
Large Cans of Cream of Mushroom Soup
Large packages of Stuffing Mix

We appreciate any donation you can make - just let us know by sending an email to thebe4goodproject@gmail.com

Our group strives to be a support for those individuals/groups in need of help.  We are thankful for all the blessings we receive and wish all of you a safe, happy and blessed Thanksgiving, too!

UPDATE on Selling for Ellie!

Our garage sale did not make the goal we had set for our "Selling for Ellie" fundraiser, but we have not given up.  We are still looking for donations and other ideas for raising the much needed funds for Ellie. (See post below).  Our total sales/donations to date is just under $400 - our goal is $1000 - let's keep moving forward.  Any amount you wish to contribute is fantastic!  Just email us at thebe4goodproject@gmail.com for more information or read the post below for location of the Wells Fargo Bank to send donations to.  We here at thebe4goodproject appreciate all the efforts in the last month - especially from those who are not members of our group who supported our project.  Thank you!

and as always,

Summer Garage Sale
"Selling for Ellie"
UPDATE
This summer, from July 20 - August 25, 2012, thebe4goodproject is supporting one of our own local residents with a very special need.  We are asking our group members, our neighbors, our families and our friends to participate in the Ellie Karlsen Surgical Fund by hosting garage sales in their neighborhoods.  Ellie is a 21 year Pope High School graduate who was diagnosed at a very young age with Neurofibromatosis type 1.  This disorder has caused a major facial skeletal defect which limits her ability to eat solid foods.  Ellie also has double vision as a result.  The surgical costs to correct this and give her the potential for normal function ranges upwards of $40K-$80K and is not covered by insurance. The Karlsens need an additional $20K to meet their goal in order to cover all of the surgical and recovery costs for Ellie.
A couple of us had the pleasure of meeting Ellie and her family at the Woodstock Market where she and her mother make and sell handicraft items to raise the much needed medical funds.  We believe we can help them reach their goal quicker by hosting garage sales.

If you would like to start a group sale in your neighborhood, please let us know at thebe4goodproject@gmail.com as we will add it to our list of sale locations.  We would also like to keep a record of the funds being raised so that we can update the Karlsens, and keep a running tab..

If you would like to participate and cannot have a sale, we will place your donated items in our "host" neighborhood sale which will run July 27 - July 29 from 8:30am-2:30pm in the Garrards Crossing Subdivision in East Cobb.  All proceeds from those items will go directly to the surgery fund for Ellie.

Donations can be made directly to a bank account set up for Ellie through Wells Fargo.  Make checks payable to: Account# 6657420755 and mail directly to: Wells Fargo Bank, 3601 Sandy Plains Rd. Marietta, GA 30062 .  Please add thebe4goodproject for Ellie in the memo section of the check.

We look forward to helping Ellie and her family reach their goal to get the surgery as soon as possible.  Ellie is attending college at Chattahoochee Tech and hopes to become a nurse.  If you are interested in purchasing any of their handicrafts, please email them at janetlynek@aol.com for a list of items or the sale location you can purchase them from.

More information can be found at: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ellies-Surgery-Fund/145346985531515 or visit their website: www.help4ellie.org

Please consider supporting our summer project in anyway possible.

WOW!

Well, the Easter Baskets for Love project was such a success, all I can say is wow!  Actually, we are so thankful for all of our friends, family, neighbors (Go Garrards Crossing!) and co-workers who took the time to support the project.  We spent the better part of Sunday assembling and wrapping most of the 240 baskets.  This morning, 5 carloads were delivered to MUST ministries in Marietta and we will finish with our Fulton County Foster Care drop off this afternoon.

I'd like to mention that we had support as far away as Ohio, North Carolina, Alabama, Florida and of course, Colorado!  Everyone has been so supportive, we could NOT have done it without you.

For more information, to offer comments or support, please email us at: thebe4goodproject@gmail.com

Our April project will be posted shortly.

Thank you again!

February Food for the Forgotten

It is real easy to get through the holidays and think because we may have donated food and supplies to those less fortunate, that they are good for the next year.  Sadly, the proportionate amount of food versus people in need is definitely taking it's toll in this tough economy.  It is February and already the food banks are low - and I am asking you to help.  Our project for the month of February is to give "Food for the Forgotten".  I have provided you with the list below of what foods are needed most, but will certainly take any food you feel like giving.  Bags can be dropped off at my home or we can make arrangements for pickup.  Although food can be given year round, the deadline for our monthly project is February 29th!  I will be taking over all food collected and delivering it to the MUST pantry in Marietta.  Anyone wishing to help deliver, please let me know.  Please share our blog with your friends and families and let's make this a huge success!

Here is the list:
  • Canned Meats (tuna, salmon, etc.)
  • Jelly
  • All Breakfast Foods (cereal, pancake mix, powdered milk, grits, oatmeal, etc.
  • Boxed Meals
  • Canned Meals (spaghetti-os, ravioli, etc.)
  • Rice, Pasta
  • Spaghetti Sauces
  • Disposable razors
  • Deodorants
  • Canned Fruits
Thanks again for all you do.  Upcoming news:  Starting in March we will be doing our annual Easter Baskets for Love for the MUST ministries and for North Fulton County Foster kids.  More information to follow.

January Coat Collection A Success!

Thanks to all the members who went out and gathered coats for our January MUST collection.  We collected over 40 garments.  The coats were delivered on Saturday, the 28th to the MUST donation center.  They will be distributed to those in need. We have been fortunate this is a mild winter, but of course, it is not over yet.  Wishes for warmth to those who need it the most.

One of our be4goodproject members, Jill Hewes,  dropped off her bags of coats.
Thanks again, Jill!

2012 - A year for caring

It is the start of a new year and thebe4goodproject has already been busy planning a more caring year.  Along with the Easter Baskets for Love, we will be doing monthly charitable events and caring activites.  It is our intention to assist where needed, when we can and for as many as we can.

January will include a clothing collection for MUST.  If you have any gently worn coats or sweaters you can donate, please email us and we will come by and pick them up or you can bring them to one of our home locations.  We will also be accepting canned goods anytime to be donated to the MUST food pantry off Cobb Parkway.

New decision:  We have decided not to become a non-profit.  It is our goal to give back to our community and we do not need to be a non-profit to do so...we just need charity in our hearts.  If you need a tax-deductible receipt for any donation, please let us know and we will mail you one from the charity/event we participate in.  (This means we will get a receipt for you and mail it - you will be responsible for your own recordkeeping).

We thank all of you for assisting us in 2011 and look forward to a much more productive 2012.

Many blessings to all of you!
