Easter Baskets for Love Celebrates 5 years!!!

This is our fifth year providing Easter Basket for the needy in Cobb County. As always, it takes a team and we have a great one!  We also get help from other friends from time to time and that makes it all possible.

This year we will be reducing the number of baskets we provide due to other organizations providing baskets as well.  We need only 40 filled baskets and would love you to support our efforts.  Please see the following list, pick a letter of the items you will purchase and email us at thebe4goodproject@gmail.com to let us know.  All items will be dropped off at our main location and that information will be provided when you email us.  Delivery of the baskets will be the week before Easter so our deadline for drop off will be Sunday, March 22nd.  I believe this will give us enough time to purchase and assemble the baskets.  Here is the list:

Thank yous all around!

As important as it is to find people who are committed to working towards a common goal, it is just as important to thank those who reached out and supported our group.  The last couple of months of 2014 we had a few small projects, and all had timely deadlines.  We wish to thank all of you who prayed for us.  Your thoughts and prayers go a long way in ensuring our mission is completed and done well.  Thank you!

Thank you to the following for their support:
  • For the letters to the military during the holidays: Courtney Young, Lily Atangcho and Kathryn Gale.
  • For the Christmas stockings for MUST: Courtney Young, Jennifer Kenny, Christina Klejka, Patty Sammons and Kathryn Gale.  Our MUST contact is always so pleased with the bountiful stockings she gets to hand out.
  • Finally, for the family gifts to Owsley: Valerie Sherer; Christina Klejka, Susan Neal, Patty Sammons, Kim Keene, Lesley Thomas, JoAnn Crawford, Stephanie Gale and Kathryn Gale.
Our 2014 was fantastic and we keep moving forward.  Our projects for 2015 are already underway and much help is needed.  Check out our next blog to be posted very soon.

Have a great Start to 2015 and as always, be4good!

It's almost here!!!

The end of 2014 is coming to a close and the New Year is almost upon us.  While we are finishing up our stockings for MUST, our Owsley County Outreach Christmas gifts have all been mailed and are on their way to Kentucky!!!

Thebe4goodproject had another wonderful year as we wrap up year 4!!!

It's hard to believe how far we've come as a small group of caring people trying to make a little difference in the lives of so many.  We served a few hundred patrons this year - and our numbers are starting to grow.

I offer anyone out there who reads this the chance to be a part of a group of regular citizens spending a little time, effort and money, to reach out and join us!

Merry Christmas - Seasons Greetings - Happy Holidays to all!!!

God bless you and your families.

Holiday Basics!

It's the end of November and the holidays are here again.  Our Thanksgiving support of MUST Ministries was great!  Special thanks to those who cooked and those who helped by funding some of the food...especially Christina Klejka, Jill Hewes, Jennifer Kenny, Stephanie Gale, Ryan Gale, Lily Atangcho, Patty Voyles, Kim Keene, Tim Burford, Patty Sammons, Susan Neal and Kathryn Gale.  We not only provided 8 large trays of mashed potatoes, 2 large trays of carrots, 2 large trays of peas and 3 gallons of gravy for the big Thanksgiving luncheon, but we also provided homemade lasagna, rolls, salad and brownies for the 60 shelter residents that evening!!! It was a huge success and the patrons loved our homemade food.  There is nothing that says love like homemade food.  Thanks again, everyone!

Our final events for the year include 20 boy stockings for the MUST shelter and New clothing for families in Owsley County, Kentucky (our out of state group we help throughout the year).  We really need help to fill these items as we only have two weeks to put it all together AND have it delivered.  Let me know what you can provide from the list below.  All items can be delivered to our be4good home by December 10th.
All items requested need to be new.

Stockings

First, the filled stockings will be dropped off at our project home in East Cobb or someone can meet you for pick up. We need a total of 20 filled stockings.  By emailing us, let us know how many stockings you wish to take care of - no number is too small or large.

Second, these stockings are for boys - please add small toys, for example: matchbox cars, dinosaurs, balls, toothbrush, toothpaste, candy (nothing with peanuts), candy cane, etc.  The project has plenty of lollipops so no need to add them.  Also, the age range is somewhere from 2-10 generally.

Please email us at thebe4goodproject@gmail.com to let us know how many you will make.  Stockings can be purchased for a couple of dollars.

Owsley County Outreach

We have 10 people to buy for this year.  We are not buying toys, only new clothing items and accessories.  This can be done one of two ways:  Pick a person and buy them the items listed and drop the items off at our East Cobb home OR buy and wrap each gift and ship directly to the Outreach in Owsley.  If you wish to mail directly, you will need to let us know when you email us so we can provide labeling information.  All wrapped gifts should have the name of the person on the gift.

Please choose by name and refer to their name when emailing us. Once done shopping, please provide list of purchased items so we can keep records for the director.

Making the holidays special for the children!

The holidays are creeping up quickly and our end of year projects are underway.  Our two biggest non-profit organizations will once again use our help to provide "a little extra" for the children.  Owsley County Outreach is in need of new clothing gifts for their toddlers and we will be making 20 boy stockings for MUST ministries.  Full details will be coming soon!

We still need a few trays of potatoes for Thanksgiving!  Email us at thebe4goodproject@gmail.com if you can help!

Being Thankful and Paying It Forward

One thing that comes to mind as the fall creeps upon us is how many family celebrations are about to take place.  As most of us start preparing for another holiday season, it's time to be mindful of those who will be without.  Once again, the be4good project will be helping MUST Ministries by cooking for their Thanksgiving meal.  We have been asked to make all the vegetables, mashed potatoes and gravy.  As we prepare to give thanks, please consider offering to help by cooking for those less fortunate.  We ask that all food below be cooked by you, not store bought.  Our food list includes:

Thank you so much for being a part of our group...

Summer's Miracle

A miracle is as simple as feeding one child and making a small difference for one hour of their life.  I just returned from Owsley County Outreach and understand the miracle we are all able to achieve with minimal effort - it's just a matter of making the effort.  I spent three hours with the director, Cleda, and she warms my heart with every word.  Here is a woman who could have taken her retirement, stayed in her modest home and lived out her remaining years with her husband of 46 years.  Instead, 9 years ago she had a calling to help feed the children of the county of her youth.  She is a modest woman with peaceful eyes and a huge heart.  She works 6 days a week, with no salary, running a thrift store in order to make money to feed these children EVERY weekend.  I was humbled by her love for life, for children and for Christ.

Cleda receives no federal funding - all donations and the small amount she gets from the annual festival she participates in to sell donated items.  She moves me.  I ask everyone who reads this to take a minute and say a prayer for Cleda and for everyone who gives of themselves to help others in need.

The picture below is Cleda with our donations in her store.

The be4goodproject provided food for 150 children for a weekend.  Just one weekend - and a summer miracle occurred. The be4goodproject has made a commitment to help her again in the fall and next year as well.  More details to follow.

I'd like to thank all the members of the be4goodproject who donated food especially: Christina Klejka, Jill Hewes, JoAnn Crawford, Nicole Burkhalter,  Nancy and Eric DeHart, Lesley Thomas, Shay Hamer, Courtney Moore, Marilyn Sammons, Patty Sammons, Susan Neal and Kathryn Gale.  Please forgive me if I forgot someone.

Have a wonderful rest of summer - our next project will begin in a couple of months.  In the meantime, be the miracle!
